Hire a Hubby,
I mean Wifey

On the mental load of invisible organising work, and why sometimes you just need another capable person.

I

have always thought Hire a Hubby was a brilliant business name. You immediately understand what it means: someone to help with the practical jobs around the house.

But most households have an enormous amount of invisible organising work.

It never stops. School, sport, birthday presents, messy cupboards, travel plans, Christmas, the house that looks like a bomb has gone off.

I am probably the most organised person I know. But I love having help around the house.

An interior designer sees a room with a different eye. A cleaner does the jobs I dread doing, much faster and better than me. A tutor somehow has a level of patience with my son that I do not possess.

Sometimes paying someone else is not about whether you can do it yourself. It is about whether they can do it better, faster and with less frustration.

If you find yourself thinking, I wish someone would just take care of this, there is a very good chance I can do it, and enjoy it too.

You might have young children and a full-time job. You might be raising children on your own. You might be the only adult in the house remembering the school notices, buying the birthday presents, sorting the uniforms, booking appointments and keeping everything else moving.

You might run a business. You might simply dislike organising jobs and have better things to do with your time.

Sometimes it is simply nice to have another capable person around to share the mental load.

And that is really what Organise My Life is all about.

I can organise the wardrobe, sort the garage, plan the birthday party, find the Christmas presents, plan the trip or finally tackle the project that has been sitting on your list for months. Do you like my website? I can help with that too.
